🌻 WELCOME TO YEAR 2 🌻
Our Year 2 class teachers are Miss Smith (2S) and Miss Vencatachellum (2V). Our teaching assistants are Miss Cartwright and Miss Kaur. Our aim in Year 2 is to encourage independent learners who have a thirst for learning. We will achieve this through hands on learning and enrichment experiences.
We will provide a safe, secure and exciting learning environment in which every child is encouraged to develop their confidence and self belief, take risks with learning and achieve their full potential. The key to a successful year is effective partnerships between school and home. We really value your support with reading at home, spellings and homework activities.
Year 2 will need their PE kit on _ & _.
MATHS OVERVIEW
Every maths lesson begins with a mental arithmetic starter, recapping previously taught content and skills.
The lessons are then taught in unit blocks, which build on one another.
Every unit has the opportunity for children to become fluent in a skill before applying their knowledge to a variety of problems and reasoning questions.
We follow the White Rose Maths scheme of learning.
ENGLISH OVERVIEW
At the heart of our English planning, teaching and learning, we use high quality and age appropriate texts. Children in Year 2 will also continue to be taught Phonics.

The teaching of grammar is explicit and contextualised to the book children are reading. Explicit teaching of reading comprehension is part of the teaching sequence and daily English lessons.
Children in Year 2 are taught to write complete compositions with increased independence. We aim to use modelled and shared teaching approaches throughout the teaching sequences to support all children's learning.
Spelling and handwriting are taught discreetly and are planned for as part of the lesson.

SCIENCE OVERVIEW

Every unit has the opportunity for children to build on and develop their abilities as a scientist.
We follow the White Rose Science scheme of learning.
FOUNDATION SUBJECTS OVERVIEW
At Chandos, we recognise that our children learn best when learning is linked, therefore we have designed a curriculum where History, Geography, Art and D&T link wherever possible.
Children will have the opportunity to learn new skills and knowledge across these subjects, building on and recapping them every year.
Children begin and end every learning challenge with a big question. The topic then unfolds as the children work to uncover the answer to the big question and ultimately create a final response to it such as a piece of writing, a project or art work.
