Keeping Children Safe
Safeguarding at our School
Safeguarding is defined as protecting children from maltreatment, preventing impairment of health and/or development, ensuring that children grow up in the provision of safe and effective care and optimising children’s life chances.
Should you have a concern for a pupil's safety, and it is within the school day (Office open between the hours of 8:30am - 3:30pm), please contact the school on 0121 464 3881 and ask to speak to one of our Designated Safeguarding Leads. These six staff have undertaken the relevant training to co-ordinate concerns regarding children's safety and are also able to liaise with the relevant outside agencies to ensure children remain safe.
If your concern falls outside of the school day, please telephone the Multi-Agency Safeguarding HUB (MASH) on 0121 303 1888 or e-mail MASH@birmingham.gov.uk.
Operation Encompass
Our school is part of the Operation Encompass project which runs jointly between school and West Midlands Police.
Operation Encompass is a unique Police and Education early intervention safeguarding partnership which supports children and young people exposed to domestic abuse.
Operation Encompass is the process of the police reporting to schools before the start of the next school day when a child or young person has been involved or exposed to a domestic abuse incident the previous evening.
The information is given in strict confidence to a Designated Safeguarding Lead to enable support to be given dependent on the needs and wishes of the child.
Online Safety
Using the internet is a wonderful thing, it opens up a world of opportunities for our children, however not all of these can be safe.
It is our responsibility to teach children how to be safe online and to recognise the dangers that may come with their online experience. We do this through our Computing curriculum as well as in PSHE lessons.
At Chandos, we also have Smoothwall - a filtering and monitoring service - to ensure the safety of all children when working online. This is linked to their Google accounts and will work on any device they use to login to this.
We hold parent workshops in the Autumn Term to discuss our Online Safety plans with parents and support them in ensuring their devices are safe at home too.
If you would like advice or support on how to keep your devices at home safe, please use the videos below or contact school to arrange an appointment with our IT Technician, Mr Moles, who is in school every Friday.
