At Chandos, Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education is taught as part of a wider, rich and balanced curriculum, with dedicated lesson time given as well as having the key themes and messages woven throughout everything that happens in school. They are embedded into our school ethos and values of :

Compassionate, Honest, Aspirational, Nurturing, Determined, Optomistic and Self-Aware.

Through these lessons and values, our pupils develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to manage their lives, now and in the future. We aim to help children to stay healthy and safe, whilst also preparing them to make the most of life and work.

Every child, regardless of gender, race or ability will have equal access to the PSHE Curriculum. We aim to provide for all children so that they can achieve their best according to their individual needs, whether they need additional support or more challenge.

Curriculum Intent

At Chandos, we:

Curriculum Implementation

At Chandos, we follow the PSHE Association programme of study, which is a whole school approach covering the comprehensive and broad knowledge and skills that the children a required to learn from the National Curriculum.

There are three core themes at the heart of the learning:

The children will focus on these themes throughout the course of the year as well as building on them as they progress through the school. These core themes are integral to the development of children and the values that they require in order to become a positive citizen of the world in an ever changing community.

At Chandos, we believe that PSHE plays a vital role in primary education and should be taught every week. This can be by teaching a theme explicitly or by weaving it into learning that the children are already doing and making it a cross curricular learning experience. We jump at the opportunity to make these links, especially when presented by children asking questions about the world around them or whenever a situations naturally arises in the classroom to teach PSHE.

As well as being explicitly taught, PSHE is an important part of our school assemblies and collective worship where children's spiritual moral social and cultural curiosity is stimulated, challenged and nurtured.

Early Years

The Early Years Curriculum ensures that children gain a solid understanding of managing themselves and building relationships.

Throughout their time in Early Years, children are given the opportunity to share, turn-take and do be involved in discussions as part of circle time.
